Louhikärmeslapaset / Dragon Mittens ^_^/

At last, presenting: Dragon Mittens =D

I´m quite pleased with the outcome! Alas, the pattern isn´t mine but Novita´s, yet they kindly gave me the permission to translate it - for that, my warmest thanks to Erika & Novita! It also should be noted that they shouldn´t be held responsible for any mistakes that I may have done.

Okay.. so, without further ado -->

The pattern holds 23st(s), which means that you can modify your mittens/socks around it quite freely (just as I did on my previous post about the socks) - if you prefer to knit all stitches around, please do, it´s all up to you!

Please also notice, that I purled two more stitches on both sides of the pattern, just to give it a bit more space - however, that is not in the original! The original pattern is marked all red, so you´ll see the difference (say, you wish to write down the pattern only). I also did ribbing on the other side, if you prefer to knit all stitches instead, again, it´s all up to you =)

Yarn: Janne (50g. = n./ca. 100m).
Needles: circular needles of size 3-4 (european standard).

Abbreviations:
p = purl, k = knit, yo = yarn over, k2tog = knit 2 together, sl st psso = slip a stitch, knit the next stitch, pass the slipped stitch over the knit one.

Cast on 52st(s). If you´re using the Magic Loop, divide the stitches 27/25.

1st row:
  • the 1st needle (27 st(s)): knit all stitches.
  • the 2nd needle (25st(s)): knit all stitches.

Row 26 (the thumb begins, right hand):
  • the 1st needle: repeat the rows 2-7 as earlier, all the way as you go.

Row 27:
  • the 1st needle: look row 26.
  • the 2nd needle: k7 (knit them previously increased stitches from the backloop (or turn them the other way around), to prevent any unwanted holes), then continue the ribbing as it goes.
Row 28:
  • the 1st needle: look row 26.

Row 34:
  • the 1st needle: look row 26.
  • the 2nd needle: k11, then continue the ribbing as it goes.
Row 35:
  • the 1st needle: look row 26.
  • the 2nd needle: k1, yo, k9, yo, k1, then continue the ribbing as it goes.
Row 36:
  • the 1st needle: look row 26.
  • the 2nd needle: k13 (knit them previously increased stitches from the backloop (or turn them the other way around), to prevent any unwanted holes), then continue the ribbing as it goes.
Row 37:
  • the 1st needle: look row 26.
  • the 2nd needle: k13, then continue the ribbing as it goes.
Row 38:
  • the 1st needle: look row 26.
  • the 2nd needle: k1, yo, k11, yo, k1, then continue the ribbing as it goes.
Row 39:
  • the 1st needle: look row 26.
  • the 2nd needle: k15 (knit them previously increased stitches from the backloop (or turn them the other way around), to prevent any unwanted holes), then continue the ribbing as it goes.
Row 40:
  • the 1st needle: look row 26.
  • the 2nd needle: k15, then continue the ribbing as it goes.
Row 41:
  • the 1st needle: look row 26.
  • the 2nd needle: move the first 15st(s) on a separate needle, you´ll now have 20st(s) on your 2nd needle. Yarn over five times and continue the ribbing with the rest of the st(s) = all together now 25st(s) on the 2nd needle.
Row 42:
  • the 1st needle: look row 26.
  • the 2nd needle: k5 (knit the increased 5 st(s) from the backloop, one by one, and be careful not to slip any off of your needle). Then continue the ribbing.
Row 43:
  • the 1st needle: look row 26.
  • the 2nd needle: *k1, p1*, repeat, and knit the last stitch.
Now continue with the pattern & ribbing all the way, until your little finger is covered. Until the little finger is covered, we begin to decrease the stitches:

Row 1:
  • the 1st needle: p1, sl st psso, p4, k6, yo, k1, yo, k6, p4, k2tog, p1 ( =27st(s)).
  • the 2nd needle: k1, sl st psso, continue ribbing with the next 19st(s), k2tog, k1 ( =23st(s)).
Row 2:
  • the 1st needle: p1, sl st psso, p2, k2tog, k5, yo, k3, yo, k5, sl st psso, p2, k2tog, p1 ( =25st(s)).
  • the 2nd needle: k1, sl st psso, continue ribbing with the next 17st(s), k2tog, k1 ( =21st(s)).
Row 3:
  • the 1st needle: p1, sl st psso, k2tog, k5, yo, k5, yo, k5, sl st psso, k2tog, p1 ( =23st(s)).
  • the 2nd needle: k1, sl st psso, continue ribbing with the next 15st(s), k2tog, k1 ( =19st(s)).
Row 4:
  • the 1st needle: p1, sl st psso, k4, k2tog, k5, sl st psso, k4, k2tog, p1 ( =19st(s)).
  • the 2nd needle: k1, sl st psso, continue ribbing with the next 13st(s), k2tog, k1 ( =17st(s)).
Row 5:
  • the 1st needle: p1, sl st psso, k13, k2tog, p1 ( =17st(s)).
  • the 2nd needle: k1, sl st psso, continue ribbing with the next 11st(s), k2tog, k1 ( =15st(s)).
Row 6:
  • the 1st needle: p1, sl st psso, k11, k2tog, p1 ( =15st(s)).
  • the 2nd needle: k1, sl st psso, continue ribbing with the next 9st(s), k2tog, k1 ( =13st(s)).
Row 7:
  • the 1st needle: p1, sl st psso, k9, k2tog, p1 ( =13st(s)).
  • the 2nd needle: k1, sl st psso, continue ribbing with the next 7st(s), k2tog, k1 ( =11st(s)).
Row 8:
  • the 1st needle: p1, sl st psso, k7, k2tog, p1 ( =11st(s)).
  • the 2nd needle: k1, sl st psso, continue ribbing with the next 5st(s), k2tog, k1 ( =9st(s)).
Row 9:
  • the 1st needle: p1, sl st psso, k5, k2tog, p1 ( =9st(s)).
  • the 2nd needle: k1, sl st psso, continue ribbing with the next 3st(s), k2tog, k1 ( =7st(s)).
Row 10:
  • the 1st needle: p1, sl st psso, k3, k2tog, p1 ( =7st(s)).
  • the 2nd needle: k1, sl st psso, k1, k2tog, k1 ( =5st(s)).
Row 11:
  • the 1st needle: p1, sl st psso, k1, k2tog, p1 ( =5st(s)).
  • the 2nd needle: k1, slip the next stitch, k2tog, pass the slipped stitch over knit ones, k1 ( =3st(s)).
Pull the yarn through the remaining stitches (8st(s)), and cast off.

Thumb:

Take all 15st(s) on a needle/-s, and pick around the thumb 7st(s) more ( = 22st(s) alltogether). Knit until a bit more than the half of your thumb nail is covered. Knit one more row and while on it, knit the last 2st(s) together ( = 21st(s) left).

Then *k5, k2tog*, repeat two more times.
Then *k4, k2tog*, repeat 2x.
Then *k3, k2tog*, repeat 2x.
Then *k2, k2tog*, repeat 2x.
Then *k1, k2tog*, repeat 2x.

Pull the yarn through the remaining stitches (6st(s)), and cast off.

Knit the left hand mitten the same way, but when reaching the thumb, look at row 26 again: earlier the thumb was on the right side of our needle, now we have to move it to the left. So instead of knitting one and yarn over, we first do the ribbing with 20st(s). Then k1, yo, k3, yo, k1. Follow the pattern two more rows, and then again the thumb: first the ribbing, then k1, yo, k5, yo, k1 (and so on, all the way until you have 15st(s)). And that should do it - if not, let me know :)

I wrote down the pattern as I knitted, so there may be some fauls - if you bump into any, or didn´t understand something or whatever, please let me know and I´ll try to sort it out!

Hope you enjoyed and thanks for taking part!

Have a nice week ^_^/
